HISTORY
Since 1949, Westex has served the good folks of Fort Worth and the surrounding area. Our specialties include fast, friendly service at a competitive price for scrap iron and metals, new steel sales, and usable steel and aluminum sales.
Westex is a family owned business founded in 1949 by Walter Harris who was born in Sand Flat, Texas near Cleburne. Walter was a civil servant during World War II, helping handle scrap for the government at Convair, an American aircraft manufacturing company in Fort Worth, which lead to the business that we do today. He sold the business to his only son, Ray, in 1978.
Many of our customers have traded with us for three or more generations. Evelyn, Ray’s mother ran the office for over 30 years, and many family members have been a part of the business since it began
The business has changed much over the years. We have hydraulic material handlers (cranes), air conditioned roll off trucks, and an electronic time clock; but we still have an office with knotty pine paneling, and real people you can stand in the same room with and visit. We do speak ‘Texas Friendly’ and also Spanish and don’t have any plans to change.
We’ll help you unload your scrap or load anything you buy. Yes we even have forklift trucks now, too.
We are on the near north side of Fort Worth, just off Main Street. Come see us every chance you get!
